With the purpose of carrying out operational coordination for Civil-Military Cooperation within the framework of the celebration, next year in Panama of the Regional Drill 2023, specialists in comprehensive disaster risk management, humanitarian aid and civil-military actions of Central America, Republic The Dominican Republic and Panama are meeting in the Central American country.
The III Regional Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance Drill 2023, scheduled to take place in June in Panama, has the general objective of contributing to strengthening the capacity of the National Civil Protection and Comprehensive Risk Management Systems (GIRD), civil-military relations , measure the socioeconomic impact of disasters, test the mechanisms, tools and technical guidelines for emergency intervention in the health sector and position the use of information and communication technologies for the response to humanitarian crises and disasters.
As regional objectives, among others, it has the purpose of implementing the procedures established in the different national instruments and protocols for the coordination of humanitarian assistance of the MEC-Reg/SICA, in addition to strengthening governance capacities in the integration of the public, private and and community in the territories.
During the inauguration of the preparatory meeting, the Minister of Government, Janaina Tewaney Mencomo, was pleased with the development of this event on Panamanian soil in 2023, while highlighting that the National Government headed by the President of the Republic of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, continues to reaffirm his commitment to work on the prevention and reduction of disaster risk framed in the “Regional Action Plan”
