Sources close to the leader of the political organization Centrados and the Venezuelan NGO Un Mundo Sin Mordaza denounced the arrest of former presidential candidate Enrique Márquez

Sources from the political organization Centrados confirmed on the night of this Tuesday, January 7, the “arbitrary detention” of the former presidential candidate and former vice president of the National Electoral Council (CNE) Enrique Márquez.

The Venezuelan NGO Un Mundo Sin Mordaza also reported the disappearance of the leader on its social networks.

“During the night of this #7January, the forced disappearance of @ENRIQUEMARQUEZP was unofficially known,” the NGO said in a message posted on its X account.

His whereabouts and the circumstances of his arrest are unknown until now.

Earlier, Márquez had advocated for understanding in the country and rejected the intimidation against other political leaders, especially, that of Juan Barreto, a member of Centrados, who had reported harassment by officials of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin) at his residence.

«We have always said that peace is not decreed, it is built with understanding and respect for those who think differently. Our Constitution must be the meeting point. Peace cannot be imposed by force, with intimidation and illegality. Every step taken outside the Constitution takes us away from peace,” Márquez said on his account on the social network X.

Márquez participated in the presidential elections on July 28, was vice president of the National Electoral Council (CNE) thanks to an institutional agreement with the ruling party, and was previously a parliamentarian and first vice president of the National Assembly.

With the political leader, there are 12 people detained between January 4 and 7 by officials of the Sebin political police. or by hooded people dressed in black, among them, Rafael Tudares, son-in-law of Edmundo González; the human rights activist Carlos Correa and the councilor in Angostura del Orinoco (Bolívar), Jeremy Santamaría.
