A large number of families reported not receiving visits from volunteers, a fact that occurred due to the high percentage of census takers who deserted their work. The director of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), Iván Ojeda, announced that he will begin the recovery process to achieve greater coverage and reach at least 90%.
During a press conference held by the institution, the representatives explained that 90% coverage was achieved in the cities of the interior, however in the urban area, specifically the capital and Asunción, there were cases of volunteer desertion, due to which several families were not registered.
Ojeda emphasized that this situation is very common in de facto censuses, for which a recovery operation had already been established that will be carried out at the same time as the Indigenous and Rural Census is carried out, which began today and continues for two weeks.
“In the event that the census takers have not arrived, no one will be sanctioned or fined. We have enabled lines of communication and we know that these lines are collapsed at this time because we have an overload of citizens who want to express themselves on different situations. We also enable social networks where they can write to us and register in the event that they have not been registered. We are all going to be registered in Paraguay”, emphasized the Director of the INE.
The modality of the recovery process will be through appointments, after communication via the enabled telephone lines (178 and 911), a day will be agreed where the volunteers and staff will be able to approach the home and take the census.
DESERTIONS
Norma Medina, director of Social Statistics of the INE, commented that it is difficult to specify the number of desertions since some occurred the day before the census and others on the day, however, she clarified that the zones and neighborhoods have been identified, in addition to the report presented by the supervisors of each crew, it will be possible to have much more detail about the situation.
He announced that some areas were: neighborhoods of Lambaré, Fernando de la Mora, part of Laguna Grande San Lorenzo and Las Mercedes neighborhood. Some volunteers who deserted were replaced by military and police.
