Through a statement, Cainco speaks out about the results exposed on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics, on the 2024 Population and Housing Census. In general terms, it calls for demonstration of the transparency of the counting process in the post-census stage.

“The results presented by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) last day have raised valid sensitivities and concerns the entire population, who deserve to be attended to immediately, with the seriousness and responsibility that the case merits,” the document states in the first paragraph.

According to Cainco: “La feeling of dissatisfaction and lack of credibility in the data at the national and departmental level The data presented are based on several important elements: first, the projection made by the INE itself months prior to the census, which is far from the official results; second, the lack of consistency with other data, such as administrative records, urban sprawl and projections made by other subnational bodies; this analysis is consistent between several departments and municipalities in the country.”

Furthermore, “in the particular case of Santa Cruz, The economic dynamics, growth of urban sprawl and other aspects that are evident on a daily basis do not seem to be reflected in the number of inhabitants, nor in the percentage of population growth. All of the above increases and deepens the concern about the transparency and methodological consistency of the official count.”

It is in light of this situation that: “we call on the National Institute of Statistics and the members of the High Level International Commission who accompanied the census process to promote transparent technical spaces to demonstrate the methodological consistency of the counting process and information processing in the post-census stage with the participation of all regional and local authorities and all relevant institutional actors, in an open and public manner with the entire population.”

To do this, they asked the “INE (which), in an agile and transparent manner, delivers the information to governorships, mayors, universities and technical entities, allowing detailed analysis of the data obtained.”

From Cainco: “We firmly believe that an instrument for planning, construction and looking to the future such as the Population and Housing Census should generate certainty for the country and should not become a cause of polarization, but this goes hand in hand with transparency and responsibility, two values that each and every Bolivian requires and deserves.”
