Cenipa report on flight 2283 accident to be released in 30 days

The Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) completed, on Monday morning (12), the initial phase of the investigation into the accident involving flight 2283, operated by the airline Voepass (formerly Passaredo).Cenipa report on flight 2283 accident to be released in 30 days

In a statement, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) reported that the engines of the ATR 72-500 turboprop, manufactured by the Franco-Italian company Avions de Transport Régional (ATR), as well as other parts of the plane that may be useful for the administrative investigation of the accident, have already been removed and transported to the headquarters of the Regional Service for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Seripa), in São Paulo (SP).

“The investigation into the aircraft accident is ongoing, with the gathering of other necessary information in order to identify possible contributing factors,” explains the FAB in the note. CENIPA must complete a preliminary report indicating the probable causes of the aircraft crash within 30 days.

Operated by Voepass, the plane, registration PS-VPB, took off from Cascavel (PR) on the morning of last Friday (9), carrying 62 peoplewith 58 passengers and four crew members. The final destination of the flight was Guarulhos International Airport (SP), but the ATR 72-500 fell suddenlyspinning in a “spin”, when flying over the city of Vinhedo, in the interior of São Paulo, about 110 kilometers from Guarulhos. There were no survivors.

In addition to the administrative investigation carried out by Cenipa, whose objective is to clarify the causes of air accidents in general and, thus, review flight safety standards and try to prevent similar events from occurring, the plane crash is the target of two police inquiries, one opened by the Federal Police (PF) and the other by the Civil Police of São Paulo.

In the early afternoon, the FAB also reported that it had made a cargo aircraft, model KC-390, available to transport the funeral urns of the victims of the accident from São Paulo to Cascavel. Twenty-four of the 62 victims of Flight 2283 were from Cascavel. The military aircraft is already at the São Paulo Air Base, “awaiting official clearance from the other agencies involved in the incident.”
