Cenidh: Political prisoner Yubrank Suazo is transferred from El Chipote to La Modelo

Yubrank Suazo, Régimen orteguista acusa a Yubrank Suazo

The political prisoner Yubrank Suazo was transferred this Thursday, June 30, and “in secret”, from the El Chipote prison complex tohe Jorge Navarro Penitentiary System, La Modelo, reported the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh). In this way, the opponent of Masaya became the first prisoner of conscience, of the 28 who are imprisoned in the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ), to be sent to a prison, a measure that is requested by other prisoners of conscience.

Suazo’s relatives found out about the move when they came to drop off water for El Chipote. Then, they went to La Modelo, where they confirmed that the opponent was in the punishment cell 300, known as the inferno, and that he did not have visitation rights until July 27. They also prevented the delivery of food, personal hygiene products and medicine for hypertension.

The Cenidh accused the Penitentiary System of infringing the right to a 20-minute visit, which is granted to any prisoner after being transferred.

“We fear for his personal integrity and his life, there is already a history of the cruel and inhumane way in which he has been treated (political prisoners) in La Modelo.warns the Cenidh in a publication on its Twitter account.

Suazo served 43 days in detention this Thursday. The opponent faces a judicial process for the alleged crimes of “conspiracy to commit impairment” and “propagation of false news”. He is the most recent political prisoner of the Ortega regime, after a wave of arrests carried out in the context of the general votes in 2021.

Since the also member of the Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy was arrested on May 18, 2022, in Masaya and taken to a solitary cell in the DAJ, his family has not been able to see him or talk to him. In the eighth visit to the prisoners of conscience in El Chipote, carried out from June 10 to 12, Suazo was not included, so his relatives hoped that they would be called the next time.

“We have not been able to see it. They only allow us to give them water, juices, sometimes some yogurt, Ensure milk, things like that, which we hope they give them because they can help their nutrition. They also authorize us to deliver and remove, every eight days, some of their belongings, such as clothes, which need to be cleaned, “said Wilfredo Suazo, father of the prisoner of conscience, in Interview with CONFIDENCIAL, on June 19, when his son completed a month locked up.

We demand that the Ortega-Murillo regime let them see, if something bad happens to Suazo, they will be the only ones responsiblewarns the Cenidh.

second time in little hell

Suazo was imprisoned for the first time in 2018, accused of alleged acts of terrorism, frustrated murder, threats with weapons and obstruction of public services. After nine months in prison, he was released in June 2019, as a result of the Amnesty Law, tailored to the interests of the Ortega regime.

The opponent Suazo had already been confined in March 2019 in a maximum security cell, as punishment for a civic protest carried out by several prisoners of conscience, when the number of prisoners for political reasons was estimated at more than 300 in different prisons in the country. , but mainly in La Modelo.

Currently, 180 political prisoners remain in different prisons in the country, of these, 28 are in El Chipote, where they are in complete isolation, they are subjected to starvation due to the scant portions of food they are given, they do not have the right to regular visits and neither do they to recreational activities.

This group of inmates —former presidential candidates, social, student, civic leaders, journalists and lawyers— are part of 61 people who were captured in 2021 and sentenced to between seven and thirteen years in prison from February to May 2022.
