With the aim of achieving a sustainable supply chain, from 2021 Cencosud Peruthrough its Wong and Metro brands, has been working with CHEP, a company focused on optimizing the pooling service, which consists of reusing pallets in its logistics processes.
In this sense, from January to December 2021, Cencosud Peru reduced CO2 emissions by almost 115 thousand kilos, saved an estimated 225 thousand dm3 in wood or more than 200 trees, and reduced more than 64 thousand kilos of waste. This represents 73% less environmental impact on wood resources and CO2 compared to the use of a conventional pallet system.
Thanks to the results obtained, Cencosud Peru received the 2021 Sustainability Certificate from CHEP. “At Cencosud Peru we strive to develop a sustainable business model. This certificate demonstrates that integrating the circular economy provides economic benefits to companies, promoting efficiencies, while achieving positive environmental results, with a significant decrease in the use of raw materials, energy consumption, and CO2 emissions”, says Mari Loli Camarero, Legal and Corporate Affairs Manager of Cencosud Peru.
For his part, Felipe Lagos, Country Manager for Peru and Colombia, comments that “with this alliance we have generated relevant tangible results for both companies. With this we reinforce our commitment to support our clients to achieve their strategic objectives, including those of sustainability; and thus, together, we advance towards the generation of a positive impact on the environment”.
