“During the morning and at the time of this report, a continuous emission of water vapor, volcanic gases and ash is observed with dispersion towards the northeast (NE)”, details the organization in its most recent report of this Saturday, October 26.
What phase is the Popocatépetl volcano in this Saturday?
The Cenapred details that the Volcanic Alert Traffic Light of the Popocatepetl is located in Yellow Phase 2which is why it calls on the population not to approach the volcano and especially the crater, due to the danger posed by the fall of incandescent fragments.
The scenarios planned for this phase are:
- Some explosions of smaller to moderate size.
- Occurrence of tremor of variable amplitude.
- Light to moderate ash rains in surrounding towns and in some more distant cities.
- Ejection of incandescent fragments within the exclusion radius of 12 kilometers.
- The occurrence of lahars could be expected to come down the ravines, due to the accumulation of ash on the slopes and its interaction with the rains expected in the coming weeks.
- Possibility of pyroclastic flows that do not reach populations.
The organization remembers that the information it shares is the result of permanent monitoring of the Popocatépetl volcano, which is carried out in coordination with the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
“The report is published daily at 11 in the morning, here the activity recorded during the last 24 hours is summarized; that is, from 10 in the morning of the previous day to 10 in the morning of the current day. If an extraordinary event occurs, it will be reported immediately,” he explains.
For this reason, he reiterated the call to ignore rumors and be attentive to the official information issued by Cenapred and the National Coordination of Civil Protection in their official accounts, especially because this Saturday morning it circulated on social networks that the volcanic alert traffic light went to yellow Phase 3which was not true.
