Cemex, Monterrey Hub Digital and STPS launch program to develop skills in data science

Monterey, NL. For the first time in the country, Cemex, the Digital HUB and the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS), will give training for 10 weeks to 37 young people from the program Youth Building the Futureso that they learn to develop skills in data science and manage to get a well-paid job.

The young people who participate do not work or study, therefore, the STPS It grants them a monthly scholarship for 5,258 pesos for three months, they will also have access to the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), commented Salvador Gámez, director of the Youth Building the Future program in Nuevo León.

Mauricio Muñoz Hernández, General Director of the Monterey Digital Hubcommented that with the support of corporations, state and federal government and investors, an ecosystem was formed, whose core part is learning.

Companies have specific needs, they need talent with digital skills, knowledge of the Python language (programming language), that will give them a competitive advantage”.

“It is a calculated bet, in collaboration with Cemex it was designed from scratch, we want to thank them because they are betting on this type of initiative, the first to promote Mexico through the digital economy,” said Mauricio Muñoz.

Luis Hernández, Executive Vice President of Administration and Organization at Cemexcommented that an intense selection was made among young people between 18 and 29 years old who already had some digital skills and who will have in the Digital Hub,–located in Santa Catarina–, an important development given the strong demand for technicians specialized in data science.

“An important part of the link is the Monterrey Digital Hub, which has been interacting with companies for four years to detect specialized talent. It is required to have basic skills, we are going to accompany them to level the group for 10 weeks,” Hernández noted.

At the end of this program, they could be hired in one of the companies that are part of the Monterrey Digital Hub or Cemex, “we want to serve the future from the present so that they can be linked.”

Stake

Luis Hernández commented that the goal is to try to develop young talent in data science, identify their core competencies, engage them for 10 weeks, and match them with companies. This will be the first project, later they will analyze other disciplines.

Cemex will contribute 50,000 dollars to pay for the services of instructors, equipment and computers with which the 37 young people will work.

It is estimated that in 10 weeks, young people will be able to have skills in Python, which is a data translation program at a basic level.

While there is a demand for data science talent, there is no hiring commitment. There are currently 1,200 young people from the federal program, linked to a Work Center, the accumulated number of young people linked since 2018 is 10,000 people.

There is an estimate that New Lion Between 50 and 80% of trained young people join as apprentices.
