Santo Domingo.- The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña Rodríguez, attended this Thursday the protocol opening ceremony of the hospital stage of the Medical Center for Diabetes, Obesity and Specialties (CEMDOE), formally marking the beginning of a new institutional phase before authorities, strategic allies and representatives of the health sector.

During her intervention, Raquel Peña highlighted the impact that initiatives like this generate for the Dominican population, underlining the importance of having institutions that expand access to reliable, safe and timely health services, aligned with the current needs of the country.

For his part, Armando Pérez, president of the Board of Directors, highlighted that CEMDOE Hospitalario is the continuity of a vision built from its origins, honoring the dream of its founder, Doña Mariela Vicini, to transform health care from a deeply human and people-centered perspective.

In that same sense, Gastón Gabin, general director of CEMDOE, pointed out that this hospital stage represents the materialization of the founding vision of the institution, translated today into better processes and an operation aimed at clinical excellence.

During his speech, he highlighted that, throughout its history, CEMDOE has served more than 165,000 patients and has provided more than 1.3 million health services, a reflection of the institution’s sustained impact on specialized care in the country.

Likewise, he highlighted the Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation as a milestone, which validates compliance with the highest standards of health care at a global level, and reported that the institution is in the process of preparing for its hospital accreditation, scheduled for the end of this year, as part of its commitment to continuous improvement, patient safety and quality of care.

He explained that the hospital begins its operations with 21 beds, with a planned expansion to 43 beds for July of this year, and integrates 24/7 emergency areas, high complexity operating rooms, Intensive Care Unit, hemodynamics room and expanded diagnostic services, as part of a structured and sustainable growth that supports the long-term institutional mission.

The event concluded with a tour of the new hospital areas, allowing us to see first-hand the scope of this transformation and its contribution to strengthening health care in the Dominican Republic.

With this official opening, CEMDOE reaffirms its commitment to safe, humane and quality care, supported by international standards, consolidating a responsible growth model that accompanies patients and their families at every stage of their life.
