CEMDOE announces hospital services and strengthens itself in medical tourism

Santo Domingo. – The Medical Center for Diabetes, Obesity and Specialties (CEMDOE) announced its conversion, next year, into hospital facilities with 28 beds for admission, new areas and an eye on Dominican patients and medical tourism.

Dr. Gastón Gabin, general director of CEMDOE, reported that they are expanding its infrastructure and services to offer more comprehensive, modern and safe medical care, with an approximate investment of 22 million dollars. Until now, the center only offered outpatient services.

The expansion includes 28 beds, including 7 nursing units. intensive care (ICU), new emergency area with 9 emergency beds, 6 low-complexity beds and 2 beds for critical patients, and 4 high-complexity operating rooms, a hemodynamics room, and interventionism room to clean obstruction diabetic patients.

Also, sterilization center, hospital kitchen and laundryhemodialysis unit, and endoscopy room.

Dr. Gabin added that the center has performed 1,900 surgical procedures, 1,540 endoscopies and has treated 180,000 patients so far in 2025.

He highlighted that this expansion strengthens the center’s commitment to quality, safety and humanization of health services, with the aim of improving care capacity and offering more comprehensive services supported by cutting-edge technology.

The opening of the new facilities is scheduled for the coming weeks. CEMDOE will continue to focus on digitalization, through the use of its digital medical history, which will allow more coordinated, efficient and patient-centered care.

Medical tourism

Dr. Gabin said that the expansion and improvement will benefit Dominican and international patients.

“In November of next year, the general certification of the Joint Commission will begin at the level of the entire center, which would make CEMDOE the first hospital in the Dominican Republic to obtain this accreditation”Gabin assured.

Likewise, the center is taking steps to become a highly complex hospital.

Dr. Gabin highlighted that these actions will be implemented after the complete installation of the hospital infrastructure.

In addition, he said that the development of medical tourism does not neglect care for current patients.

The information was offered by Dr. Gabin in a meeting with the press to celebrate the Christmas season and present the news.

CEMDOE, located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, became the first medical center in the Dominican Republic in obtaining accreditation from the Joint Commission International (JCI).

The center specializes in Comprehensive care for diabetes, obesity and chronic diseaseswith a focus on the patient and his family.
