Luis Aníbal Schupp denounced on his twitter that a presidential candidate would have received US$ 500,000 not to lose his horse in his intentions. Although he did not mention names, some Internet users believe that it would be Euclides Acevedo, who decided not to be part of the Concertación and is considered one of the candidates who could subtract votes from the opposition in the face of the general elections.
Celeste Amarilla, a national deputy for the PLRA and a candidate for the Senate, stated that she would not be surprised by such a proposal from Cartes.
“Euclid comes with a certain discredit, he is not the Euclid of the 90’s, I still have the hope that he will not accept. It is one thing that he does not join the Concertación, he lends himself to dividing the votes, but it is already morally questionable that he receives money from Cartes, it would be the end of his political career, he could make us lose the elections but it would be the end of his career to accept something like that,” he warned.
He pointed out that the Concertación has equal chances of winning even if Euclides Acevedo, Paraguayo Cubas and José Luis Chilavert are not part of the team.
“Since Cartes is the enemy, we are talking about a dangerous rival. He comes and destroys you with money, against him anything can happen. But I think we can win, but people must realize the danger of Cartes winning today, which is not the same as the Cartes who won in 2013, now he is very much immersed in corruption, ”he sentenced.
The presidential elections will be next April 30. Santiago Peña, candidate for the ANR, announced the support of his former adversary Arnoldo Wiens. With this, the ANR prepares a joint effort between the two main factions to face the Concertación led by Efraín Alegre, who comfortably won the last internal elections.
