The Network of Offices of the Historian and the Conservator of the Heritage Cities of Cuba celebrates in 2023 the 15 years of its creation.
Initiative of Dr. Eusebio Leal, it originated in 2008. Five years later it was officially legitimized by agreement of the Council of State.
For this reason, the institution, which methodologically coordinates the operation of the offices that make it up and promotes the management of the integral development of heritage cities, will develop an extensive day throughout the year.
Initiated last May, the day includes cultural, technical, academic, communicational and community activities. Its objective is to make the work of the Network visible and to sensitize people with its work, as explained this Thursday at a press conference by Arsenio Manuel Sánchez, coordinator of the entity.
Photographic exhibitions, a film series, specialized tours and a cultural festival are among the main programmed activities. They are joined by cycles of conferences, signing of agreements, publication of works and children’s contests.
Two of the highlights of the day will be the XIX International Meeting of Heritage Cities, which will take place in November, and the celebrations around December 5, the founding date of the Network and which is intended to be established as Heritage Cities Day. in Cuba.
In addition, as part of the celebrations for the 15th anniversary of the institution, it is carrying out a communication campaign that includes a new image for the Network.
It also projects a strengthening of its international projection from exchanges and other actions with similar entities from nations, such as Spain, Italy and Mexico, according to Sánchez.
The Network of Offices of the Historian and the Conservator of the Heritage Cities of Cuba is led by the Office of the City Historian and is made up of a representation of 14 other localities. Of these, 11 have their own offices and four work for their next establishment.
The 15 heritage cities that make up the Network are Havana, Santiago de Cuba, Camagüey, Trinidad, Cienfuegos, Bayamo, Sancti Spíritus, Matanzas, Remedios, Baracoa, Viñales, Gibara, Guanabacoa, Sagua La Grande and Cárdenas.
