Judith Pena | July 4, 2023

With the objective of forming a strategic alliance that promotes education in Panamanian children, the painter and teacher José Luis Colina, strengthens ties of support with the Light Project for Education that he leads, the Diplomatic Association in Panama since 2018.

The Light for Education Project has the objective of bringing an adequate lighting system with solar panels to basic education Educational Centers, all Multigrade that lack electricity in rural areas of the country, providing them with optimal and safe lighting systems. These equipments are acquired by the Association, through the funds raised during the year with the support of initiatives such as Sabores Solidarios and its traditional Annual Charity Gala, among others.

This action is undoubtedly applauded by the painter Colina, who for approximately four years has set himself the goal of creating the First International University of Art in Panama. Promoting that the isthmus becomes the only country in Central America to have a world-class artistic training Academy and create a unique platform to promote and export talent.

We pursue what we love, the artist indicated, and without a doubt, providing children with that stimulus to study and seeing their happy face when they arrive at their classes, deserves my accompaniment and respect. Each one of the diplomats that make up the association, like me, are NOT far from the needs, in this great country, we want to be part of the solution and we have added ties of brotherhood to collaborate in this beautiful project.

For this month of July, Nick Hill Fine Arts.-Auction House, the second company of the artist, José Luis Colina, will be holding the first art auction in the Old Town, accompanied by the Diplomatic Association accredited in Panama and an important concurrence of lovers of art that will support generating funds, a percentage of which will be used as the first donation for the Light for Education project, carried out by the artist to stimulate learning and the creation of skills of girls and boys from these communities.

For the Costa Rican ambassador and current president of the Diplomatic Association in Panama, Ingrid Picado Monge, each contribution received by the association for the project is valuable, since it contributes in a very noble way to improving the quality of life of dozens of families. And combined with art, it strengthens the alliances that will transform our future generations and feed culture.

The artist is currently working on expanding his horizons in Panama, Europe and New York, leaving a sustainable and sustainable legacy, and that is why Luz para la Educación considers it a flagship project, which must undoubtedly be supported. To date, seven basic education educational centers have been attended, one in the Guna Yala region, three in the Antón district, and two in the Natá district in the Coclé province. Two more educational centers are currently scheduled in the provinces of Herrera and Los Santos, thus impacting a population of more than 1,000 families.
