Cecilia Valenzuela, director of Peru21analyzed the situation of the president José Jeríafter he was captured on video meeting with Chinese businessman Zhihua Yang, a fact that has generated the momentum for a motion of censure in Congress.
During his analysis, he explained that a possible censure would not only affect Jerí as head of the Legislature, but would also imply the fall of the Board of Directors, since his status as acting president is based on the position he holds within Congress.
“By censuring him in Congress, what would have to happen is that the Board of Directors would fall. What supports him as president in charge is that he presides over the Board of Directors of Congress,” he said in an interview with journalist Eduardo Quispe through the platform Peru21 TV
He added that an acting head of state cannot be involved in situations of this nature. “The president in charge cannot commit acts of corruption or errors of the magnitude that he himself has recognized,” he stated.
“They have committed fraud, they have defrauded the Peruvian State, they have won tenders to build works, they have joined the MTC. They are not our brothers, they have come to steal the money of the Peruvian State. It cannot be that the president joins them and responds to their call,” he said.
“José Jerí must leave power”
Regarding Jerí’s political future, the journalist indicated that the outcome will depend on the position that the congressmen adopt in the face of the existing evidence.
“It is difficult to predict, because it has to do with the morale of the congressmen. Here are videos, documents and more reasonable indications that are going to appear. These are serious things,” he warned.
Likewise, he considered that, for the good of the electoral process, The president should step aside.
“He has not been elected by the Peruvians, he is in charge and he is behaving in a degrading manner, so he must leave. Those who maintain and support him are going to be as responsible as he is. People are going to judge the congressmen,” he expressed in Peru21 TV.
