The flower sector of Companhia de Entrepostos e Armazéns Gerais de São Paulo (Ceagesp) estimates an increase of 25% to 30% in sales carried out in the week before Mother’s Day, celebrated this year on May 8.
The sector had an impact due to the restrictions imposed during the covid-19 pandemic, suffering from the cancellation of events, parties and weddings. According to information from Ceagesp, in relation to the recovery of the flower sector, in the first quarter of 2022 there was an increase of 8.5% in the amount sold, compared to the same period last year.
Mother’s Day is considered strategic for the recovery of the sector, one of the important dates for the commercialization of flowers and plants. According to the Economics Section of Ceagesp, the movement perceived at the fair on Tuesday (3) was positive and there is expectation of greater commercialization this Thursday (5).
“Traders say that many items have already been ordered and the number of visitors is also expected to increase as Mother’s Day approaches. Vase flowers, such as orchids, and cut flowers, such as roses, continue to be the most demanded this week,” said the head of the Economics Section at Ceagesp, Thiago de Oliveira, in a statement released by the company.
Ceagesp holds twice a week – from Monday to Tuesday and from Thursday to Friday – the traditional Flower Fair in the capital of São Paulo, with producers, distributors and traders of flowers and plants gathered at the Mercado Livre do Produtor pavilion. . The fair takes place from 10:30 pm, continuing throughout the night, until 9:30 am.
In addition to São Paulo, Ceagesp informed that the warehouses in the interior of São Paulo also sell flowers and plants, in Araçatuba, Bauru, Guaratinguetá, Presidente Prudente, Ribeirão Preto, São José dos Campos, São José do Rio Preto and Sorocaba.
