These income will come from the Tax for the Provision of Lodging Services, which is estimated to grow by 15.1% compared to 2025, this is 141.8 million pesos more than projected for the previous year.
The resources will be channeled to the Mixed Tourism Promotion Fund of Mexico City (FOMIX) and will be used not only for tourism promotion, but for public investment that improves the conditions of the city both for tourists during their stay and for residents of the capital during the coming years.
“In 2026, FOMIX will continue to be a key tool to finance strategic projects in public infrastructure and mobility,” indicates the 2026 Budget project.
Among the projects that are currently financed through this fund are:
- Purchase of 17 new articulated trains and remodeling of Light Rail stations from Tasqueña to Xochimilco
- Construction of Trolleybus Line 14 Universidad–Huipulco, which will link the Banorte Stadium (formerly Azteca Stadium) with the Universidad station on Metro Line 3.
- Street lighting of the Historic Center, artistic lighting of emblematic buildings, road marking and signage linked to the 2026 World Cup.
- Installation of a market and bike parking at CETRAM Huipulco.
FOMIX projects a total investment of 4,000 million pesos, which includes the 1,079.4 million pesos projected for the lodging tax for next year, in accordance with the Income Law initiative.
Five million tourists are expected to arrive in Mexico for the World Cup, of which around 2.5 will be concentrated in Mexico City, according to estimates from the federal Ministry of Tourism.
Next year the capital will host five matches, including the opening game, between June 11 and July 5.
