Along with the celebrations, lighting work will be carried out along 40 kilometers in the Historic Center, said the head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada.
“We are going to illuminate all its streets, that is, we are not going to have a Historic Center divided into two: from the Zócalo towards Lázaro Cárdenas, where there is lighting, and from the Zócalo to the east that is all dark. No,” he declared.
Christmas activities
The Zócalo will become a huge stage. It will be illuminated with millions of LED lights, with three huge Christmas trees and 14 light sculptures. It will house a Monumental Nativity and 120 craft exhibitors. A 150-meter Light Tunnel will also be set up there.
“It is the largest Tunnel of Light in Mexico. It has increased a little in size. Last year we had it and it was a complete success. All the selfies in Mexico were taken there,” declared Ana Francis López, local Culture Secretary.
Seventy-six musical groups of various genres (tropical, northern, rock, son, ska, sonidero) will offer concerts during these 16 days of celebrations. Among them, the symphonic choir of the Ollin Yoliztli Cultural Center and Las Víctimas del Doctor Cerebro stand out, a Mexican rock band originally from Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexico.
Event for New Year 2026
As usual, Mexico City will have a musical show to say goodbye to the year. This 2025 will close in a different way: it will not be a single musical group that will be the guest, but rather several exponents of both national and international electronic music.
Brugada said it will be the “largest electronic music party in the world.” The event is on December 31 on Paseo de la Reforma Avenue, at the foot of the Angel of Independence.
In addition, on December 21 and 28, at 3:30 p.m., dramatized tours will be held at the intersection of Madero and Palma streets, in the Historic Center.
Celebrations in mayor’s offices
In parallel, other events will take place in 15 public squares in the rest of the mayor’s offices, where there will be pastorelas, community inns and light sculptures.
As well as 224 school Christmas displays, which will be the first concerts of the children of the “Do Re Mi Fa Sol por Mi Escuela” program.
