Mexico City would recover until well into 2022 all the jobs lost due to the health contingency that was ordered in 2020 and 2021 to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
Claudia Sheinbaum, head of government in the capital, acknowledged that despite efforts in economic reactivation, there is still a deficit in job creation to return to pre-pandemic levels.
In the last three months we have been the entity that has grown the most in jobs. In this month, around 27,000 new formal jobs were created. There is a sector of the population that depends a lot on the entrance of the offices, particularly it is the sector that is dedicated to cleaning the offices, there are around 120,000 jobs that were lost, practically since the first months of the pandemic and there, they have not yet recovered, ”he said.
Claudia Sheinbaum said that the office sector is not yet operating at 100%, so this has meant that there are no new hires.
“Construction is still not at its maximum, but it is recovering, commerce is also recovering in a very important way, services, too, but these cleaning services, which were many by outsourcing companies, which still continue to allow this type of company , still not recovered because the offices have not reached 100 percent, “he said.
Sheinbaum revealed that they are already meeting with companies that have offices to find out if changes will be implemented in the work schedules and thus have a better X-ray of the sector.
From these dialogues with the private initiative, Sheinbaum Pardo reported that most of the office companies for the first months of next year will already begin to operate with greater capacity.
“If not to 100%, to 80%, anyway, if they go back to 80%, to 70%, the cleaning service would have to be 100 percent. So, we are waiting for this sector to recover in the first months of next year ”, he emphasized.
At the same time, he revealed that they are preparing a plan for 2022 to expand more employment options.
“We are going to generate next year so that there are other job opportunities, particularly for low-income women who are precisely the job that today migrated to non-formal employment,” he said.
Yes there is recovery
Sheinbaum Pardo assured that in the ENOE of Inegi all the jobs that had been lost have already been recovered, however, the pending is in the formal employment registered by the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).
He revealed that due to the modifications that were made to outsourcing, it is expected that the seasonal decrease in December will not be generated.
“Practically they stopped hiring workers and were hired again in the month of January-February,” he reiterated.
According to the IMSS monthly report, the capital in July registered 10,271 new jobs, in August 21,572, in September 22,864 and in October 26,453, this month being the highest figure so far this year.
