CDMX prepares barter market in Xochimilco, what can you exchange?

Barter market in Xochimilco

The next barter market will be on Sunday, April 13, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in the Xochimilco Ecological Park, located in peripheral ring #1, Colonia Ciénega Grande, Xochimilco, 16036 Mexico City, CDMX.

The event is organized by the Ministry of Environment (Sedema), through the General Directorate of Environmental Policies and Culture, to promote the culture of recycling and separation of waste, the conservation of natural resources and biodiversity, as well as the mitigation of climate change in Mexico City.

What is the barter market works?

It is a program that consists of exchanging certain waste with the personnel of the Sedema for “green points”, and taking basic basket products or fresh vegetables.

People can carry:

  • Cardboard
  • Paper
  • PET and HDPE
  • Aluminum and iron cans
  • Tetrapack
  • Glass bottles (not perfume or medications).

Used cooking oil can also be taken, as well as electronic and electrical waste. All waste must be clean, crushed and tidy.

No spotlights, egg cardboard, caps, unicel, clothing and toys are received.

The minimum of waste per person is 1 kg to a maximum of 5 kg.

2025 calendar

The barter market is an itinerant program and the second Sunday of each month is held in different areas of the city. These are the next dates:

  • April 13, 2025. Xochimilco Ecological Park.
  • May 11, 2025. Forest of San Juan de Aragón.
  • June 8, 2025. Tlalpan forest.
