They call to take care of the escalators
When inaugurating 18 escalators renovated in 2024 on December 26, the director of the Metro Collective Transportation System, Guillermo Calderón, reported that of the 195 stations in the network, 102 are equipped with escalators, for a total of 467 mechanisms.
Calderón highlighted that escalators are a key element for the mobility of users, especially older people and other groups that most require this service. He pointed out that in addition to urine, there are various factors that contribute to the failures or breakdowns of this equipment.
“It is very important that no liquids are spilled on the escalators, that there are no loose slats or slippers that could interfere with the operation and even hurt a user, and be very careful, especially with children, when using the stairs as well. ” he stated.
The Government of Mexico City announced that between 2025 and 2030, 120 escalators will be completely renovated, with a total investment of 1.2 billion pesos. The authorities recognized that this task will be complex, since no staircase is identical; Each one must be custom-made, considering space specifications, resistance and the influx of users at each station.
