How much does CDMX expect to raise?
By 2026, the capital government plans collect a total of 4,582.4 million pesos in ownership taxes or use of vehicles in accordance with the Income Law initiative, which represents 172.8 million pesos more than estimated for 2025, that is, an increase of just 3.9%.
“The Tax Subsidy on Vehicle Ownership or Use (…) remains as a stimulus to compliance and vehicle regularization, considering the trend observed in recent fiscal years,” indicates the 2026 Expenditure Budget project for Mexico City.
Who can access?
In order to receive the 100% subsidy on tenure proposed by the city government, individuals and legal entities must meet the following requirements:
-Be up to date with the payment of possession tax from previous years.
-Pay the endorsement for the annual validity of license plates, which by 2026 will be 760 pesos.
-That the value of the vehicle including Value Added Tax (VAT) does not exceed 638,000 pesos and in the case of motorcycles it does not exceed 250,000 pesos.
When would you start applying?
The period for Being able to exempt possession will go from January 1 to March 31, 2026. Those who buy a vehicle in the first three months of 2026 will be able to obtain this benefit as long as they meet the above requirements and cover vehicle control rights within a maximum period of 15 business days.
Vehicles that exceed 550,000 pesos must pay ownership, a tax that is calculated at 3% of the value of the unit.
This, once the initiative is discussed and approved by the capital’s Congress, which has a deadline of December 15 to analyze the 2026 Fiscal Package.
