Within the framework of International Care Day that commemorates this October 29different political and academic sectors of the capital installed the Technical Advisory Body (OTC) which will be in charge of tracing the legislative, economic, administrative and governmental route to implement the Public Care System.
Key bodies such as the Women’s Secretariat of the Government of Mexico, the Government Secretariat, the Welfare and Social Equality Secretariat, the Citizen Participation Secretariat, the Women’s Secretariat, the Mobility Secretariat, the Legal Department and Legal Services, the Electoral Institute of Mexico City, the local Human Rights Commission, COPRED, the DIF Mexico City, academic institutions such as the UNAM and the Universidad Iberoamericana, as well as various organizations will participate in this OTC. of civil society specialized in care and disability issues.
This context, the Morenoist deputy Cecilia Vadillopresident of the Gender Commission of the local legislature, recognized the progress in Congress and actions carried out since 2018 in terms of care, such as the PILLARS, promoted by the current president Claudia Sheinbaumas well as the day houses and the Utopias of Clara Brugada as mayor of Iztapalapa
She highlighted that with all the accumulated experience, the head of government will transfer proven and improved systems to the 16 municipalities for the benefit of people dedicated to care work, accompanied by a law and infrastructure works with an investment of more than 12,000 million pesos.
“That is something that marks us and inspires us to be able to make this cutting-edge legislation even better and is what guides us to build the secondary legislation that will give life to the Care System,” he highlighted.
When speaking, Citlalli Hernández, women’s secretary of the Mexican government, considered it necessary that not only in the capital, but throughout the country, the policy of care responsibilities be redefined and that this is not an exclusive task of women.
“Women have won rights, but we have not let go of responsibilities and that is why today we can maintain that 75% of the care work falls on women. It is not a matter of revenge, but rather a matter of rethinking inequality,” said the federal official.
Citlalli Hernández celebrated that Mexico City is the first entity in the country to assume that care is a right and that is why the Clara Brugada government considers the creation of the Public Care System necessary and a priority.
“If we were to calculate what unpaid care work is equivalent to, it would be equivalent to 27% of the Gross Domestic Product,” he noted.
The women’s secretary of Mexico City, Daphne Cuevas, considered it important to resume the contributions of the consultation, for the modernization of the local Constitution and to cover the needs of the people who care for and receive care.
The PAN deputy Andres Atayde He stated that this event makes history by being the cornerstone of what will be the Public Care System and asked that the consultations be robust and transparent.
