During the inaugural message, the general director of the Heroic Fire Department, Juan Manuel Pérez Cova, recalled that in its beginnings this corporation was destined to be part of the Mexican Army, but later it joined the capital’s Police, until it was decided that it would be a decentralized organization to help the population.
“In 1856, a very interesting story began to be written: the president of the Republic at that time, Ignacio Comonfort, decided to create, found, the Heroic Firefighters Corps, there a great story began to be written,” he declared.
For his part, the Secretary of Citizen Security, Pablo Vázquez Camacho, highlighted the heroism and dedication of all the members of the corporation, with whom, he assured, they work in coordination on different tasks and emergency response.
“Over the years, the Fire Department has been a fundamental pillar of our community. With admirable dedication and deep courage, firefighters put their lives at risk with the sole objective of protecting people in emergency cases, mainly fires, as well as natural disasters, accidents and other disturbing events,” he highlighted.
The Secretary of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection, Myriam Urzúa, said that in this first parade honor should be paid to all the members of the Heroic Fire Department in the performance of their duty.
He announced that his department, together with the firefighters, will start a citizen campaign to avoid and prevent gas leaks, since this is one of the most recurrent emergency calls.
“We will inform you how to use this culture of prevention so that it also allows us to protect not only our lives, but also our heritage, our property, our environment, anticipating seasonal emergencies: floods, when it rains; fires, during the dry season, offerings for the dead and Christmas decorations,” he said.
The parade began on the corner of 20 de Noviembre and Venustiano Carranza, progressing through the Zócalo and the streets of the Historic Center until reaching the Monument to the Revolution.
In the parade, vehicles and cars bomb model “Polvorín” 1854, bomb “Tulyehualco” model 1972 were shown. Also the car scale 1947, flagship vehicle of the corporation, which was used for the filming of the movie “El Bombero Atomico”, starring Mario Moreno “Cantinflas”.
