Dissident teachers from Section 9 of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) stated that “despite all the tricks of the charrismo union, we managed to lead hundreds of delegation committees” that will represent thousands of preschool, primary and special education teachers in Mexico City.
After the first stage of the election concluded last Thursday, after 25 years of having suspended all voting processes for representatives by union delegation, they announced that next Tuesday a meeting will be held with dissident teachers who managed to lead or join winning lists.
The leaders of the dissident teachers’ union in the capital, Pedro Hernández Morales, Francisco Bravo and Roberto Gómez, emphasized that “all kinds of irregularities were experienced, from assemblies without quorumto the point of refusing to register the lists of teachers who sympathized with the National Coordinator of Education Workers, but despite this, we won on their turf and under their conditions.”
However, they reiterated that “it is a rigged process, a surprise attack, in the purest style of charrismo union of the 70s of the last century, and which today is still tolerated by the educational authority, and supported by that control structure that are the supervisors and directors.”
Hernández Morales, general secretary of the dissident teachers grouped in section 9, indicated that they do not know if in the next few days they will continue the appointment of the delegation committees that are still missing and that They mainly include school areas with the greatest presence of dissident teachers.
