CDMX Congress approves extending the deadline for the modernization of Metro Line 1

Batres Guadarrama also explained that with the implementation modifications, it is intended that the first four-year intervention phase be expanded to five, within the 19 total years considered; and assured that the source of payment will not be modified.

Meanwhile, deputy Víctor Hugo Romo from Vivar Guerra stated that the intervention on Metro Line 1 is a priority and must be completed in 2026, ensuring the efficiency of transportation and the safety of users.

Just this Saturday, Clara Brugada assured that Metro Line 1 would reopen in the first half of 2025, despite the fact that she presented said request to the Congress of Mexico City.

In the explanatory statement, the capital government asserted that, although there are external factors that influenced the delay of works on Line 1, such as the construction of the Interurban Train Observatory station, the extensions of lines 9 and 12 of the Metro , there are others that were attributable to the Chinese consortium led by the company CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive and MexiRRC SA

At a press conference, the Head of Government explained that this request to extend the contract is until December 2025, but it will be in the first half of that year when the Observatory – Cuauhtémoc section reopens.

He said that during the remaining months some complementary works will continue, which do not interfere with the operation and progress of the trains.

Brugada added that due to the delays that the construction companies have generated in the delivery of the works of Line 1, first for the Pantitlán-Balderas section and now for the Cuauhtémoc-Observatorio section, the capital government has applied sanctions exceeding 1,500 million of pesos.

At the beginning of December, the head of Government announced that in the first months of 2025, four stations on Metro Line 1 would reopen after completing the remodeling work: Cuauhtémoc; Insurgents; Seville and Chapultepec.

The renovation works on Metro Line 1 began on July 11, 2022, and this December 13 have reopened, while seven stations remain closed for said works.
