historical low in homicides
In high-impact crimes, there is intentional homicide, which had a reduction of 56.60% between January and June 2019 and the first semester of 2022, the capital authorities indicated.
The report states that in June 2022 the lowest incidence rate in homicides of the last 25 years was recorded having a daily average of two people who die in Mexico City under this modality.
The head of government Claudia Sheinbaum described these figures as historic in the capital. “Today we already have a consistency where we have less than two average daily homicides in Mexico City. It is an impressive decrease that only corresponds to a Security Strategy that we have implemented in coordination with the Government of Mexico,” explained the president.
The report compares the average number of intentional homicides in 1997, the year in which the country’s capital began to be governed by leftist parties –PRD and Morena– with three cases per day.
In the six-year term of the founder of the Sol Azteca party, Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, up to three daily intentional homicides were recorded, an average of 2.5 per day during the six-year terms of Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Marcelo Ebrard.
Miguel Ángel Mancera’s administration began with a daily average of three homicides and ended with more than five murders.
