President Jair Bolsonaro participated today (4th) in the signing ceremony of the new concession contract for the Presidente Dutra and Rio-Santos highways (BR-116/RJ/SP). The auctions, won by the CCR Group, were the largest road competitions promoted by the government. Over the 30 years of the contract, investments of R$ 14.8 billion are foreseen by the group, which already operated Via Dutra.
The stretch granted is 625.8 kilometers long and connects the metropolitan regions of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, in addition to being part of the connection between the Northeast and South regions of the country.
During the ceremony, Bolsonaro, who was accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio de Freitas, said that the works will not only benefit Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, but also the rest of the country.
“This delivery of Tarcísio [de Freitas] with the reduction of tolls at Dutra, the exemption from tolls for motorcyclists is very beneficial not only for São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, but for the whole of Brazil”, said the president.
Among the improvements foreseen in the concession is the expansion of the road capacity in the Serra das Araras section, with the construction of a new lane, allowing four lanes per direction and shoulders. In total, there will be 80.1 km of duplication, 601.8 km of additional lanes and 144 km of side roads.
The implementation of 2.6 km of tunnels, 128 footbridges and at least 535 bus stops is also planned. There are also ten toll plazas along the entire concession stretch, with a discount on the tariff for frequent users of the highways and exemption from the tariff for motorcyclists.
“If we had extended the contract and simply updated the tariff by the IPCA, this Rio-São Paulo shift would have [por] 70 reais. It will be made for 50 reais, and whoever has the tag [de pedágio] will pay 5% less. It will do this displacement for R$ 47”, said the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio de Freitas.
Full monitoring of Via Dutra is also planned with automatic cameras to identify incidents, in addition to the passage of vehicles without the need to stop at toll points in Guarulhos (SP).
