CCL: Government inaction costs the country S/1.3 billion for three days of strike

Gamarra

The Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) estimated that the country’s economic losses reach S/ 1,365 million due to the three strikes that occurred on October 9, 16 and 23, as a protest measure by the transportation and commerce sectors, against the wave of crime. .

The head of the Institute of Economics and Business Development (IEDEP) of the CCL, Óscar Chávez, explained that the transport strike affects different sectors of the economy and its impact will depend on the effective number of transporters who join the strike, as well as other affected sectors.

“We estimate that some affected sectors are commerce and services, and within them retail trade, financial services, transportation and restaurants. “The potential losses in sales are estimated at S/ 455 million per day,” he explained.
The CCL has proposed to the government some measures such as declaring a state of emergency in the Peruvian National Police (PNP), to provide it with infrastructure, equipment and all the logistical and operational resources necessary to fight crime.

Likewise, it proposes incorporating intelligence and investigation agents with extensive experience and who are in retirement.

Finally, it is proposed to take control of the 120 vulnerable areas of the country, which are duly identified, through joint actions between the PNP and the Armed Forces (FF.AA.) and the coordination of their respective intelligence offices through a integrated system dedicated to the fight against citizen insecurity and the wave of violence.
