CCIAP questions the creation of a new tripartite table on the reform of the Organic Law of the Social Security Fund

The Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (CCIAP) expresses its deep concern regarding the decision of the Labor, Health and Social Development Commission of the National Assembly to create a new tripartite table to address the bill that reforms the Law Organic of the Social Security Fund (CSS).

“After an extensive citizen consultation process that lasted more than a month and a half, added to a two-month tripartite table in the Presidency of the Republic, we consider that sufficient inputs and proposals have already been collected for the Commission to carry out the task that corresponds to it: the review and proposal of modifications to save the Social Security Fund, a crucial institution for the well-being of all Panamanians,” said Juan Arias, President of the CCIAP.

According to the business union, the country faces an imminent crisis in the CSS, whose financial and administrative problems are widely known and have been the subject of discussion in various instances in recent years. “This administration had the courage to present a concrete proposal, and it is now the responsibility of the Legislative Body to act promptly and responsibly to guarantee the sustainability of the system,” Arias stressed.

For the CCIAP, delaying decisions is not an option. The time for consultations and reviews has passed. Every day that the taking of measures is postponed aggravates the situation, endangering not only the viability of the CSS, but also the social, economic and financial situation of the country.

The President of the most representative union of the private sector called on “the members of the National Assembly to fulfill their constitutional duty and make informed and responsible decisions. The creation of new discussion tables not only unnecessarily prolongs the process, but also sends a message of inaction in the face of a problem that requires urgency.”

The CCIAP reiterates its commitment to the well-being of Panamanians and will be vigilant so that this process is carried out with the seriousness and speed that the situation demands.

“Panama cannot wait any longer. Let’s act now, in favor of One Box for All,” Arias concluded.
