An unprecedented and free show in São Paulo will present the production by filmmakers from various indigenous peoples in Brazil.
Call of Image Cosmologies: Indigenous Cinemasthe show consists of 33 films that highlight the indigenous film movement, including experimental films, documentaries and profiling movies. The event brings together filmmakers from various Brazilian peoples and regions such as Maxakali/Tikmũ’ũn, Kuikuro, Yanomami, Mbya-Guarani, Guarani Nhandeva, Tupinambá, Karapotó, Guajá/Tenthara/Guajara, Huni Kuin, Xakriabá, Mebêngôkre-Kayapo, Baniwa, Krahô, Xavante, Tupi, Fulni-ô and Kaiabi.
The films selected for the event address topics such as land, territory, rituals and the relationship of peoples with nature, always from a self -representation perspective. The curatorship is by Olinda Tupinambá and Junia Torres.
“It is extremely important that people can make their own films and it is important to think about distributing these productions, because only then will we have the possibility to strengthen national cinema made by indigenous peoples,” said Olinda, in a statement.
Among the show’s highlights are the first films that were directed and filmed by Yanomami women: Yuri UxëAtima Thë – Fishing with Timbó and Thuë Pihi Kuuwi – A Woman Thinking.
The program was divided into 17 thematic axes and also includes parallel activities, such as a round table, which will be held on April 30, at 18h, with the presence of curators and filmmakers Sérgio Yanomami and Vincent Carelli. There are also two commented sessions: one of the movies The verb was made meat; Kaapora, the call of the woods; and Ibirapemawhich will be held on April 27, and another with the screening of the movies The dreams guide; AGUYJEVETE, AVAXI’I; and Bakish Rao: Plants en Luchawhich happens on May 1st.
The festival takes place between April 26 and May 25th at the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center, in downtown São Paulo. The schedule is available in website show.
