In a letter addressed to Pedro Vaca Villarreal, Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), the head of the Citizen Community bench, request their presence in the country. They request your arrival in the country to verify the violations of freedom of expression that have occurred after the apprehension of the Governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho.

“We request your authority, your pronouncement and visit in crazy (to the place) to the Bolivian State”, reads the letter. The letter has the signature of the senator Andrea Barrientos and the deputy, Enrique Urquidi, both heads of bench respectively.

On December 28 of last year, Camacho was apprehended and later transferred to La Paz. After the precautionary hearing, the governor He was sent to the Chonchocoro prison with preventive detention for the events of 2019. As a result of these detentions, tension and violence settled in Santa Cruz and threatens to spread to the entire national territory.

This Tuesday a march was held in the nine capital cities demanding an end to police abuses and the freedom of political detainees.

“Now, there is an abuse of the imposition of preventive detentionan aspect that generated a crisis in the penitentiary regime and imminent dangers to the Human Rights of those who have been punished without a conviction for suffering this measure ”, indicates another part of the letter that the CC assembly members addressed to Pedro Vaca Villarreal.

As a sample of the events in Bolivia opponents described the cases of Enrique Tarqui and Miguel Ángel Rivero, who were directly attacked by the police in the demonstrations in Santa Cruz.

“In the repression exercised by the Bolivian Police, numerous violent, disproportionate, and arbitrary actions have been detected directly against journalists, protesters, and political leaders,” the letter states.

In parallel, the Vice Minister of Communication, Gabriela Alcón, said that the Government will also go to the same office to denounce the attacks suffered by the State channel and the way in which it was forced to close its broadcasts in the city of Santa Cruz. The same situation was denounced with an attack on the radios of the original peoples.
