What is CBP One?
CBP One is an application from the United States Customs and Border Protection, available for phones with Android and iOS systems. It allowed various procedures to be carried out: verifying waiting times at the border; apply for an I-94 provisional entry; request an Agriculture or Biological Products Inspection or present a traveler manifest for bus operators.
Launched in January 2023, it became an essential tool for migrants as it allowed them to begin their procedures to legally enter the United States, by obtaining an appointment at one of the eight ports of entry on the border between Mexico and the country. from the north: Brownsville, Eagle Pass, Hidalgo, Laredo, El Paso, Nogales, Calexico and San Ysidro.
At the appointment, each case was reviewed individually and they could request asylum through a humanitarian permit, to be able to enter the United States and then continue their immigration process and even obtain a work permit.
To obtain an appointment it was necessary for the person to be in northern or central Mexico, however in August 2024 it was also enabled for migrants in Tabasco and Chiapas.
