A group of experts collects data on the explosion that occurred on May 6 in the Saratoga hotel of Havana, but they were still insufficient for the purpose of knowing the causes of the unfortunate accident, which has already left 42 dead, a good number of injured and considerable damage even to nearby facilities.
According to a report from the Havana Channelthe specialists that make up the working group, and which met at the headquarters of the Civil Defense General Staff, continue to assess the circumstances in which the incident occurred. accident, although they have already revealed details related to the liquid gas (LPG) supply operation to the tourist facility from the tanker truck, presumably the origin of the explosion.
The specialists assured that no conclusions can be drawn and reported that the truck had left in the early hours of the morning to carry out various supply services, and that before arriving at the Saratoga hotel it had satisfactorily completed the first of the deliveries.
According to this report, the tanker truck had been parked on Dragones street, on one of the sides of the building, where the personnel in charge of this activity authorized the unloading to the storage tanks, located in the upper part of the building.
Preliminary data indicated that after starting the process an odor of gas had been detected inside the installation, and it seems that the action was stopped for this reason, taking into account that not even 50% of the discharge was completed and that the valve that allows the gas outlet was closed.
Apparently, according to these data, both the driver and the assistant and the person in charge of the gas supply operation in the Saratoga did not have time to complete the protocol established in the event of the gas leak, which, in addition to stopping the pumping and disconnecting the truck to the hotel outlet, includes the movement of the vehicle to another area.
The three people involved in that operation are among those killed. Their bodies were found in the area where the actions were carried out, according to the explanation provided to the television channel of the Cuban capital.
The experts assured that they will continue working until completing this investigation and being able to establish with greater certainty the causes that generated the fateful accident.
