The Catholic University of Chile ceased today his coach, the Argentine Christian Paulucciwho last year contributed to complete the glory of the four-time championship but this year is chaining a negative streak, with six defeats in ten league games and a boring and very poor game.
In a statement, the “cross entity” explained “that by mutual agreement the contractual relationship with Mr. Christian Paulucciwho until today served as technical director of the Squad of Honor of Catholic University”.
“Our institution appreciates the work done over the years by the coach and his leadership in the processes that led UC to win a Super Cup and consolidate the Four-time Championship obtained in 2021,” he added.
The Argentine took the helm of the blue ship on August 31, 2021, as an interim solution to the team’s losing streak under the baton of Uruguayan Gustavo Poyet.
Barely two weeks later, and thanks to good results accompanied by a better game, he consolidated himself on the bench of “the Crusaders”, with whom he managed to lift the Super Cup and the National Championship before the end of the year.
A “honeymoon” that seemed to be prolonged – “el pelao” extended his contract for two years in December – but that has ended abruptly after just nine months, amid criticism from the press, disappointment and anger from the fans and bewilderment in a locker room in which several players claimed to “not understand” the coach.
The cessation, which was expected in the last few hours, occurs a week after the Catholic University receive in his fief of San Carlos de Apoquindo the colo coloco-leader of the League, in one of the quintessential classics of the Chilean league.
Paulucci leaves the Crusaders in a bad position in the league -ninth, eight points behind the “cacique”, who shares leadership with Unión Española- and in a better perspective in the Copa Libertadores, in second position in group H, with three points, the same than Talleres Córdoba, and half than the leader, Flamengo, their next rival.
The blue entity has not revealed who will take charge of the team from now on.
