A catamaran with a still undetermined number of tourists capsized this Sunday afternoon in the waters of Samaná Bay, as reported by the authorities.
Maritime rescue teams and support units operating in the area immediately went to the scene of the incident, managing to save all the people on the boat.
The Navy of the Dominican Republic reported that the affected vessel is the catamaran “Boca de Yuma”, 40 feet in length, which had departed from the Embat dock with passengers from the cruise ship “Mein Schiff 1”during the route, The ship had damage to the hull, allowing water to quickly enter.
There were two Dominican crew members on board, including the captain, who activated an emergency signal upon detecting the structural failure. The Navy explained that, after receiving the notice, it launched its action protocols, providing communication support and coordination with nearby vessels to carry out the safe transfer of the tourists.
As part of the operation, the passengers were transferred to other ships of the same company that owned the damaged catamaran and later taken to the port, where they received preventive care.
Likewise, authorities confirmed that there were no fatalities or reports of serious injuries.

At the moment, the causes that caused the accident have not been established; competent institutions have begun investigations to determine whether it was a mechanical failure, human error or adverse conditions at sea.
