Catamarán V2V Empres will renew maritime connection between Nueva Gerona and Batabanó

A new catamaran will begin operating daily routes between Nueva Gerona, Bataban and Cayo Largo, by temporarily replacing Ferry Perseverance, which will enter maintenance.

Transport Minister Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, announced in Facebook That the V2V Empresas arrived this Saturday at the port of Borabanó from Mexico. With capacity for 240 passengers, it will guarantee safe and comfortable trips on these key routes.

Tickets, 200 CUP, will be available 15 days before each trip, facilitating access to passengers.

The catamaran will operate with a weekly day reserved for maintenance, which ensures, points the official, “high security standards.”

Meanwhile, luggage and coexistence standards will be available in terminals and agencies to guarantee ordered trips.

According to Rodríguez Dávila, this transition marks a step towards the modernization of maritime transport in Cuba, with the V2V Empresas assuming the responsibility of maintaining island connectivity.

In addition, the incorporation of the Río Las Casas catamaran is prepared, which is currently out of service and in repair since its last return of the South Cayo Largo tourist pole.

The Ferry Perseverance, acquired in 2022 by the Ministry of Transportation and that has connected these regions in recent years, will carry out its last journeys on October 1 and 3 before undergoing integral renewal.

The vessel, the most modern of its kind in Cuba, suffered on August 17 a fault in the lubrication of the port reducer, which forced to return to the port of Nueva Gerona and immediately activate the protocol designed for this type of incidents, review The newspaper Granma.

“We know that both vessels have endured a continuous exploitation and that require maintenance interventions to guarantee their safety and reliability; therefore, the equipment is dedicated to restoring the operational conditions as soon as possible,” said Rodríguez Dávila recently.
