With banners, dozens of community members of the San Juan Bautista de Catacaos Peasant Community They reached Piura and made a peaceful demonstration in front of the Superior Court of Justice of Piura to demand justice and in defense of their territory because they have been evicted for several years.
The communal Javier Quiroz explained that the Catacaos community members have presented to the Judiciary a constitutional amparo action in the month of February, but was rejected by the judge. After this, it was appealed in the month of June, however, to date it is not pronounced whether or not they are admitted, they indicate that this is by the claim of the lands.
“The demand is to respect our constitutional rights of land that is from the Piura – Chiclayo road. We only want our rights that have been violated to be restored,” said Quiroz.

They specifically demand the return of the lands that have been removed or intend to be removed from the community members, “we want to record that these lands, we are the true and legitimate concessionaires. Companies want to take care of and take possession of these territories,” said the Commune.
This dispute is for the more than 10,000 hectares that are in dispute, “by the land traffickers and we are thousands of community members, since our ancestors have been there, those of us who are now and those who will come because we live with the land of raising livestock, agriculture, with the exploitation of the zapote, the algarrobo, that is why we demand respect,”
It should be noted that the San Juan Bautista peasant community of Catacaos has been faced with an arduous struggle to recover these lands that, as they allege, have been stripped by companies linked to the sodalicio of Christian life for several years.
Given this, a legal process is followed to recover its territory, however, so far there is no response from the amparo action presented to the Judiciary.
The protesters, who, with banners in hand requested the attention of the authorities, warned that this struggle measure will continue in case the Judiciary does not respond to the amparo action presented in the month of June of this year.
