Amelia Calzadilla, Guerrero Cubano, Cuba

Castroism against Amelia or the propaganda against the messenger

HARRISONBURG, United States. — I read with great attention the comments of the readers of CubaNet and other digital publications because I like to follow the course of events and their resonances.

Concomitantly with the information on the IX Summit of the Americas, a “direct” of a Cuban mother on Facebook went viral, so much so that the reaction of the dictatorship has not been long in coming.

Visibly upset, Amelia Calzadilla, a 31-year-old mother of three minors, viscerally presented a summary of her feelings, shortcomings and the helplessness she finds herself in, which, ultimately, is the same situation suffered by millions of Cubans.

Far from analyzing their claims in depth, some “gentlemen of the dictatorship” have prioritized the analysis of their language. I find it amusing that they, the communists on the barricade, are so concerned about “good manners” so typical of the bourgeoisie, although I have always defended that the expression of our ideas is not at odds with respect for the adversary.

If Amelia had thought more, she would have made a calmer “direct”, but she was undoubtedly desperate, because a matter as simple as having gas to cook her children’s food in Cuba is a problem; because she is tired of going to different offices of the dictatorship in search of help. Amelia was desperate in the face of the blackouts, the lack of food, the indifference of the authorities to her needs and those of the majority of Cubans. She is desperate, in short, because despite being a young professional, she has no future in Cuba.

Amelia’s catharsis exploded with the luminosity of a supernova on social networks and caused a chain reaction of other mothers who supported her words with other “direct” ones that also went viral.

The impact that Amelia’s words had on social networks was so great that a few hours later she was visited by a commission from the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) from her municipality, which took note of her allegations, as if it were the first time that exposed them and as if they were going to solve their claims.

A few days after the first anniversary of the protests of July 11, Cuba is a powder keg to which the fuse of rebellion draws closer every day. The dictatorship is on the defensive. That is why it is not new that individuals with an elusive and cowardly face like “El Guerrero Cubano”, or with a dirty face like Iroel Sánchez, have attacked Amelia. The latter, one of the furious Taliban of Castroism, published in Cubadebate a three-paragraph libel titled Coincidence and/or causality of a viral video. Accustomed to lying, Iroel suggests in the last paragraph of his pamphlet that Amelia Calzadilla is a product of “the system of psychological warfare laboratories against Cuba in digital networks operated from the United States.”

Of course, the triad of infamous paragraphs was immediately supported by the army of cyberclairs and trolls of the dictatorship. Among the commenters, one name caught my attention: José R. Oro. As I am a regular reader of the site, his name seemed familiar to me and I consulted the registry of contributors to Cubadebate, verifying that, indeed, it is one of them. The curious thing about this “gentleman’s” comment is how maintaining “good manners”, he used misogynistic language and adopted a manipulative position of the pain of this Cuban mother whom he unjustifiably offended.

José R. Oro is another of the Cubans residing in the United States who publicly manifests his moral rottenness. From here, comfortably enjoying the benefits of this democracy, he writes assiduously in Cubadebate against this country and defends the Cuban dictatorship. I enclose your comment for readers to form their idea.

Amelia was forced to make a second direct response to the accusatory avalanche of “the gentlemen” of the dictatorship, also anticipating a possible arrest when she went to the place where she was summoned this Monday.

On July 11, 2021, Miguel Díaz Canel Bermúdez, instead of listening to the demands of freedom and changes of the Cuban people, gave the order to repress the protesters. Almost a year later, the situation has only worsened and more and more Cubans are raising their voices on social media. Now Amelia did. How long will his rebellion last? We do not know. What we do know is that now it has been her, tomorrow it could be any other Cuban mother with a child who is imprisoned or starving.

Instead of listening to Amelia and doing something to resolve her claims, the same as those of hundreds of thousands of Cuban mothers, the regime has chosen to denigrate her using its media, which she cannot access on an equal footing to expose their points of view, because the dictatorship is very afraid of visceral language and the truths associated with it, which are already unconcealable.

For this cowardly task, the dictatorship has several of these “gentlemen.”
