The new taxes applied to casinos in New Lion Gambling and gambling consumers in 2022 have slowed down new investment and forced job cuts, according to the industry lobby group.
“In 2022, we still cannot recover from the number of places registered before the pandemic,” said Guillermo Martínez, spokesman for the Regional Council of the Gaming Industry in Nuevo León (CRUJI), and asked the legislators of New Lion that tax the number of gaming machines in use in each casino and not “the number of machines that exist” in each one.
In addition to the companies in the industry, consumers also experienced an increase in taxes charged by the state treasury. This tax went from 10% to 15%, which in the words of Martínez will affect the income of the sector and state tax collection in 2022.
“That has led us to sacrifice 5% of the jobs,” said Martínez, who assured that the sector has 30,000 direct jobs. 40% of the machines in gaming centers were also withdrawn and sent to other states.
According to his calculations, the gaming business will contribute 950 million pesos for tax payments in 2022, when the authorities had budgeted 1,300 million pesos.
“To obtain those 1,300 million pesos labeled in security, only the machines that are used would have to be taxed, reconsider the direct tax on the client and, according to the law, reactivate the issue of spaces for smokers, since it has been proven that if respects their space, there would be a 30% increase in income and taxes,” said Martínez.
The Regional Council of the Gaming Industry in Nuevo León (CRUJI) integrates the companies Caliente, Revolución, Winland, Codere Group, Foliatti, Casino Logrand Entertainment Group and Play City.
