Between July 13 and 18, a court of the High Court of London will hold a new trial on the Venezuelan gold that remains in the United Kingdom kidnapped after the self-proclamation of Juan Guaidó as president of Venezuela.
Judge Sarah Cockerill, prior to the trial, curtailed the right of the current president of the Central Bank of Venezuela, Calixto Ortega Sánchez, to testify in favor of the recovery of more than 30 tons of Venezuelan gold.
In this way, Ortega will be able to resume a 2019 statement on the daily operations of the BCV, in terms of currency issuance or monetary policy, but not his opinions on the experience, qualifications or intentions of the Guaidó board regarding the management of the country’s international reserves.
However, Richard Lissack, an English lawyer for the Government of Venezuela, asserted that “the July trial will determine the question of the validity of the appointments of the Guaidó board. If their appointments are not valid, the issue ends here”.
The Government of President Nicolás Maduro maintains a permanent fight so that the assets of the nation withheld are administered by its management, as established by the Constitution of the Bolivarian nation.
