“We are talking about people who, days after the event, presented intrusive memories, hypervigilance, insomnia and a constant feeling of threat,” said Dr. Zoilo García, clinical psychologist and main researcher of the study, which consists of the testimony of 1,034 people.

The study revealed 27.9% depression and 21.7% anxiety in the affected population

27.9% of the interviewees presented significant symptomatology of depression, while 21.7% reported important anxiety symptoms, which reflects a generalized emotional affectation in the population.

In addition, 14.1% showed clinical symptoms compatible with a probable post -traumatic stress disorder (PTSP).

Among those who presented depressive symptomatology, the most common were: persistent fatigue, 56.8%; loss of interest or enjoyment, in 47.6%; Frequent sadness, in 44.2%.

In the case of anxiety, the most reported symptoms were: excessive concern, in 42.1%; and difficulty relaxing, in 40.8%. Women assume family and work roles that make them more vulnerable.

The study identified that women, young people, aged between 18 and 30, as well as the unemployed in the fun center were the groups with the greatest psychological affectation. Suppressing what it feels does not eliminate discomfort, but intensifies it.
