The former Commander-in-Chief of the Army and General (r), Ricardo Martínez, arrived on Tuesday night at the office of the visiting Minister Romy Rutherford, for the investigation into the causes of the case called Fraud in the Army and to carry out carry out the summons served regarding the prosecution against you.
According to the sources provided by Thirdclose to the investigation assured that the transfer, tonight, of General Martínez to the minister’s office, was due to be prosecuted for the reasons for which he is being investigated and for which his detention was ordered in the Battalion of Military Police, in Peñalolén, since Thursday of last week, when he accepted his right to remain silent in front of the magistrate.
The former Commander-in-Chief was arrested after attempts on his part to delay the investigation, such as the request to testify at his home and in the company of his lawyer, Juan Carlos Manríquez, whom he sent to the Martial Court, last March, to request that his testimony take place in his home; situation that was granted with a divided vote.
However, after partially accepting the request on that occasion, the general’s situation suffered a setback, after the Supreme Court unanimously revoked the previous decision and dismissed the appeal filed by the general’s defense.
Manríquez assured in the instance, that “the freedom and security” of Martinez is threatened. But, finally, at the end of March, the decision was made by the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court – made up of ministers Haroldo Brito, Jorge Dahm, Leopoldo Llanos, María Teresa Letelier and member lawyer Ricardo Abuauad -, summoning the former commander to testify in person before Rutherford.
It should be remembered that the minister called the military to give his testimony under the “air tickets” area, where the diversion of money allocated for tickets and travel expenses within the Army is investigated.
