On Wednesday night it was confirmed that the former tourism minister (and current Broad Front senator), Liliám Kechichián, as well as her second-in-command, Benjamín Liberoff, did not commit any crime during their tenure at the head of that portfolio and, particularly , there was no abuse of power in any of his proceedings.
It is the second instance in which this case has been dismissed: the first had been after the complaint filed by former Minister Germán Cardoso in August, but it was filed without any indication of non-compliance or omission. A lawyer had asked to review the case that also ended in nothing.
At a press conference, Kechichián remarked that, since the first time he was accused, nothing illegal was found. “Not satisfied with that, there was a new lawyer who asked that the case be re-examined. It was in the period that this is allowed, which is 30 days from the first file, and finally, yesterday, the lawyer of first instance in criminal matters of 40 Turn, who had once again submitted the file to prosecutor Lackner, who had to to do with our purchases, with works, with advertising from the Ministry of Tourism, decided once again to file it. And this is a final decision”, said the senator from the Front.
He added that, “luckily and for our peace of mind, his management at the head of the Mintur during the Broad Front government is absolutely beyond question.”
For his part, Benjamin Liberoff said that “we are not all the same. And from that point of view, today the Justice has cases of how the Ministry of Tourism has been managed on which it will have to resolve.
