CAS staff who fought against COVID-19 protest demanding contract extension

CAS workers who were hired to fight the pandemic that killed thousands of people, but whose attention also allowed a large number of patients to overcome the virus, protested demanding that their contract be extended and their staff be transferred covid to regular staff since behind them there are hundreds of families that depend on their work.

They ask that LAW 2204 and Bill 24 37 be approved, which would allow these personnel to be appointed exceptionally because they risked their lives and those of their families to care for those affected by covid-19. They remembered that they covered shifts not for 8 or 12 hours, but for a full 24 hours, many got infected and had to be away from their families.

They pointed out that they had a conversation with the regional director of health, Luis Zuñiga, who promised them a solution today. “They called us heroes and now we are out of work” they shouted. They also said that when the severity of the pandemic was passing they were relocated to other positions, such as external clinics, and they effectively managed to cover the need for personnel that currently exists. “If we leave, who is going to take care of our patients?” they questioned.
