The district implements a project to prevent floods in areas that have presented challenges in front of the rains.
The Mayor’s Office of Cartagena activated a preventive plan to face the rainy season 2025. This initiative aims to avoid flooding and other risks that affect the city.
This new cycle of cleaning and maintenance of channels contemplates an intervention of more than 15,600 linear meters in the areas that have historically presented difficulties, with an investment of $ 3,604,916,896, led by the Advisory Office for Disaster Risk Management (OAGRD) and executed by Edurbe.

This project is based on a strategy implemented in 2024, when more than 55,700 linear meters were removed and 95,300 cubic meters of waste were extracted. In that year, for the first time, the city did not report victims and it is expected that with this work it will benefit 195 thousand Cartagena.
The three local mayors of Cartagena will also actively participate in this initiative: Historical and the North Caribbean, of the Virgin and Tourism, and Industrial and Bay. “The channels are part of the natural drainage system of Cartagena. Thanks to them, the waters run by gravity towards the low dimensions, such as the Ciénaga of the Virgin. They are not garbage dumps, they are living infrastructure that we must protect, ”explained Daniel Vargas, director of the OAGRD.
