Cartagena deployed 3,300 uniformed personnel for its “Christmas with a Purpose” plan, with controls in tourist, commercial and mobility areas.
With 3,300 uniformedthe Cartagena Metropolitan Police activated the comprehensive plan “A Christmas with Purpose”a strategy designed to strengthen security, prevent crimes and accompany citizens during the end of the year celebrations.
Candle Night Celebration
The launch takes place on the feast of the Immaculate Conception known as “the night of candles”. The authorities indicated that security will be reinforced in the three locations of the city.

The device will be deployed in the three locations of the city, with priority in strategic corridors such as:
- Historic Center and Stone Corralito.
- Bocagrande, Castillogrande and El Laguito.
- Tourist and hotel area of La Boquilla.
- Bazurto and Santa Rita markets.
- Transportation Terminal and Rafael Núñez International Airport.
- Beaches of Marbella, Crespo and La Boquilla.
- High-traffic commercial sectors such as Los Executives, San Fernando, Blas de Lezo, El Bosque and San José de los Campanos, La Castellana and Caribe Plaza.
The Police indicated that these points concentrate the greatest dynamics of mobility, commerce and tourism during December, so Constant patrols, checkpoints and preventive actions will be maintained to avoid theft, fights, sale of adulterated liquor and situations that put life at risk.

The authorities indicated that The plan is structured into eight action fronts that cover different areas of prevention and safety:
- life comes first: Night controls will be reinforced in sectors such as Getsemaní, Bocagrande and the Northern Zone to prevent fights and situations derived from excessive alcohol consumption.
- Protected childhood: Children and Adolescents authorities will accompany shopping centers, beaches and parks in order to prevent sexual exploitation and any violation of rights.
- road safety: Controls will be implemented at the main accesses to the city—Vía al Mar, Variante Mamonal and Troncal de Oeste—focused on excess speed, drunkenness and technical-mechanical conditions.
- Safe environments: They will intensify operations against crimes such as theft from people, cell phones and commerce in areas such as Bazurto, the Historic Center, India Catalina, Bocagrande and San Felipe.
- Purple Patrol: They will provide priority attention to women victims of violence, supported by line 155 available 24 hours a day.
- Safe tourism: They will deploy support in the Historic Center, authorized beaches, docks and hotel areas, with special emphasis on preventing cases of exploitation.
- Control of adulterated liquor: will include permanent inspections in shops, bars and nightclubs
- Zero gunpowder, more life: refers to operations to prevent the marketing and use of illegal gunpowder, especially in market squares and peripheral areas.
