Carriers proposed a rate for the ticket that is the equivalent in bolivars to 0.50 cents on the dollar. They argue that the current one (Bs 5) does not satisfy the cost structure of the maintenance of the unit and neither does it cover the needs of their homes. They reported that they will hold a national assembly on Tuesday, March 7, in which they will decide on the measures of pressure that they will apply to ensure that the ticket is adjusted. For the sector, the Executive executes delaying tactics so as not to give them timely answers
The transportation sector urgently needs to increase fares, because the last increase that came into force on December 26 of last year is more than outdated; it does not supply the cost structure for the maintenance of the units and much less to cover the needs of their homes. They proposed anchoring the ticket to the equivalent in bolivars of 0.50 cents on the dollar.
Yelmira Jiménez, president of Líneas La Voluntad de Gandhi (UD5 of Caricuao), assured that the sector knows that the citizen cannot afford the ticket due to the deterioration of purchasing power. However, she asserted that the carriers cannot wait for the government to finally decide to respond to the wage demands of the population.

The current minimum fare on urban routes is Bs 5, which is equivalent to just over $0.20, if calculated at the rate of the Central Bank of Venezuela for March 4. The sector proposed that a fee be established based on 0.50 cents, about Bs 12.
“When the Official Gazette published it (December 26) that rate was already out of date, it did not cover operating costs and also began the rise in the value of the dollar in relation to the bolivar,” he added. According to Jiménez, there is a stoppage of units due to the impossibility of drivers to buy spare parts and do the correct maintenance of the vehicles.
On whether the proposal to index the ticket to the bolivar would contemplate monthly adjustments, he indicated that the anchoring of the rate to the price of foreign currency would precisely avoid recurring adjustments, “if the dollar is maintained.” When asked about how the dynamics would be in the weeks in which the price of the currency varies daily, he said that “this is the real problem, there is no rate that can cover the cost structure while we have such an unstable economy. We are talking about approximate amounts and no one guarantees us that what they approve today will be used for next week.
Users have denounced on social networks and the media that in transport units when they pay with higher denomination tickets with respect to what the ticket costs, they are charged above the legal rate. On this, the union representative’s call is for citizens to make the legal payment and for drivers to respect the amount that is in force.
Yelmira Jiménez, also a spokesperson for the Interunion Transport Command, reported that next Tuesday, March 7, they will hold a national assembly in which the situation of the sector will be discussed and they will decide on the pressure measures that they will apply to achieve the increase in rates.
He explained that in February, the then vice-minister of transport, Carlos Farías, made a commitment to the sector to give a definitive answer on the ticket. However, so far there has been no response.
Farías was replaced, according to Official Gazette 42,579 dated March 1. The move is killed in the ministerial portfolio was branded by Jiménez as a “delaying tactic so as not to give us timely answers.”
“We do not want to be the cause of protests being generated. The State does not give answers to the carriers and it is important to highlight that we do not have compensatory measures from the Government. They allege the issue of fuel, but it is no secret to anyone that the Patria page has problems daily, the litra is reduced and carriers are removed from the system, “he explained.
