Carora City Council appoints PSUV mayor due to Javier Oropeza’s “absence”

alcaldesa PSUV Lasmit verde Carora

On Monday, August 12, Mayor Javier Oropeza appointed Iraida Timaure as the head of the Torres municipality (Carora), through resolution No. A-016A-292. But over the weekend, the Municipal Council held a session and swore in Lasmit Verde as the new mayor of that town until the end of the term. Residents of that municipality stated that they will not allow “state terrorism to prevail over the will of the people.”

The Carora Municipal Council (Torres municipality, Lara state), with a pro-government majority, appointed a new mayor linked to the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) on Saturday 17th, after declaring a “power vacuum” by Javier Oropeza.

This was reported by several journalists and local media. The mayor of Carora, Javier Oropeza, went into hiding after reporting a campaign of persecution and harassment against him and his family was also targeted by state security forces for allegedly being involved in violent acts during the post-election demonstrations there.
