Carolina Ribera denounces that two judges "postponed" and without judicial career "were put" to convict Jeanine Áñez

Carolina Ribera, daughter of Jeanine Áñez, denounced that two of the three judges that make up the First Anticorruption Sentencing Court, which is in charge of the coup d’état II case against the former president and former military chiefs, They do not have a judicial career and “were put in” only to sentence their mother.

“The two judges, Marco Antonio Vargas and Rocío Lupe Zabala, who had been postponed and were unable to become a judge, were appointed on January 18. after my mother’s accusation. They were appointed only to carry out this process against Jeanine Áñez with the instruction that she be condemned“, said Ribera in contact with THE DUTY.

The Public Ministry presented the formal accusation against Áñez on November 30, 2021. The crimes for which she is prosecuted are resolutions contrary to the Constitution and the laws and breach of duties, which have a sentence of one month to two years in prison. .

At the hearing on Monday, June 6, the defense of the former president requested the suspension of the trial until the Plurinational Constitutional Court (TCP) responds to the complaint to the rejection of the action of concrete unconstitutionality.

This resource requests that articles 153 and 154 of the Criminal Code be declared unconstitutional, referring to the breach of duties and resolutions contrary to the Constitution and the laws, as they are generic crimes of impossible application.

The president of the First Anti-Corruption Sentencing Court of La Paz, Germán Ramos, was the only dissident and argued that before resuming the trial it was pertinent that the TCP respond to the accused in respect of due process.

However, given the two opposing votes by Vargas and Zabala, it was decided to continue with the trial, which will resume at 2:00 p.m. today, Tuesday. According to Ribera, Judge Ramos is the only authority with a judicial career.

Regarding the impediment to Jeanine Añez from attending the trial in person, the relatives stated that it is not the first time that they have denied her rights during the process.

“My mother has been denied all her rights in this process that is illegal from start to finish. In addition to denying and prohibiting him from being present at his own trial. Yesterday he applied twice and was denied. There are no legal arguments on the part of the president of the Court as to why she cannot be in the trial, “claimed her daughter and her spokesperson.

The Judicial Branch, through a circular, determined that the oral trial hearings be face-to-face.
